Once in a Blue Moon | Nunzio DeFilippis

Aeslin Finn used to love fantasy stories. Her mother and father would read to her at night fantastic tales about a far-away kingdom called Avalon. One night, they abruptly stop her bedtime story, and tell her they have to go out of town on business. On this trip, Aeslin’s father dies and she never sees him again.
Eight years later, Aeslin’s in high school and things are going well; she has a great best friend named Sam and a date with a totally cute jock named Michael. On her way home from school one day, Sam persuades her to stop in a strange little shop, where Aeslin finds the book her parents used to read her as a child. The two girls buy the book and bring it to Aeslin’s house.
When they open it, suddenly Aeslin is pulled into the story into the land of Avalon! She is told that she has a magic destiny to fulfill, and must become a great dragon knight, to save the kingdom. Aeslin isn’t too pleased about her fate, though, with the help of her mother (with the revelation of some family secrets) and Sam, decides to follow her destiny and try to save Avalon.
Once in a Blue Moon is a fast-paced fantasy that does not disappoint. Fans of Funke’s Inkheart or Smith’s Bone series will love this tale of dragons, mystical books and far-away lands.
